Week of December 13th.

 



REMINDERS!

  • Holiday party donations due before Friday 
  • Thursday December 16th children may wear an ugly sweater 
  • Friday Children may dress up for the holiday party. 
  • Under New York State and City Health codes all Pre-K and Kindergarten students are required to have an annual Flu shot. Students will be required to remain at home until proof is provided that your child has received the Flu vaccine. 
  • Please make sure your child walks into the school building with a mask on already. 
  • Please make sure your child has two extra change of clothes, including underwear, tops bottoms and socks.

Focused Learning Activity for the Week:

Teacher will be working in small groups with children helping them look into a mirror and discuss what they see. Children will then be able to use materials at the art center to make themselves. 

 

Standard Addressed:

Goal P-ATL.3 Child appropriately handles and takes care of classroom materials.

 

Foundational Text for the Week:


Different? Same! By Heather Tekavec 


Questions that will be asked throughout the week related to the foundational text:


There are lots of animals in this book such as birds, insects, fish and reptiles. Animals can all look very different and have some things that are similar, or even the same. Let’s look at the first page. What makes the tiger and the zebra similar? 


Let’s turn the page. What makes the tiger and the dog similar? 


What are some things that make you the same as your friends in 3-K? What are some things that make you different? 

 

Learning Centers Available for the Theme:

Blocks- Children are encouraged to use explore the block center. They will be shown a few unit blocks, shown where they can be found in the classroom, and shown how to match them to their outline in order to clean up.

 

Dramatic Play- Children are invited to explore the dramatic play area and use the props provided. Dramatic Play will be set up as a kitchen.  Teacher will introduce basic materials, how to use them, and how to put them away.

 

Art- Children are invited to explore the art area. They will be shown a paint container, brush and paper. Teacher will model how to dip brush in paint and paint a few brushstrokes on paper. Students will be shown where materials can be found in the classroom and what they should do when they finish painting.

 

Science- Children will be shown a few items from a collection of natural objects. Teacher will model how students can begin to explore some of the materials. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom and how to put them away when finished.

 

Math- Children will be shown a couple of puzzles. Teacher will model how to take apart and how to put a few pieces together. Students will be shown where puzzles can be found and how to put them away.

 

Library- Students are able to explore books from the classroom library.

 

Writing- Students are invited to explore the materials provided in the writing center. They are encouraged to explore their name cards.  

 

Sensory- Students will be shown a small amount of sand and a few toys. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom.

Week of November 6th

Teacher will be working with the children using magnify glasses to discover different objects around them. Then children will be asked to draw an item they discovered.

I Went Walking by Sue Williams 


Questions that will be asked throughout the week related to the foundational text:

How did the child in this book feel when he saw the cat? How do you know?

How did the child in this book feel when he saw the Dog? How do you know?

Why do you think the animals followed the child?
