Focused Learning Activity for the Week:


Students will be encouraged to join teacher for a walk around the school building. Children will be asked to look at what is around them during the walk; animals and objects. 

 

Students that need extra support: Will be given prompted questions like what do you see? What else can you find? What about this?

 

Students that are ready for a challenge: Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question, name the colors they picked and the colors they made. 

 

ELL Students: Will be given the directions / questions in Spanish.  Dictation will be written in whichever language they answer

Goal P-SE 9. Child recognizes self as a unique individual having own abilities, characteristics, emotions, and interests.


Foundational Text for the Week:

Different? Same! By Heather Tekavec


  • There are lots of animals in this book such as birds, insects, fish and reptiles. Animals can all look very different and have some things that are similar, or even the same. Let’s look at the first page. What makes the tiger and the zebra similar?
  • Let’s turn the page. What makes the tiger and the dog similar?
  • What are some things that make you the same as your friends in 3-K? What are some things that make you different?


Learning Centers Available for the Theme:


Blocks- Children are encouraged to explore the block center. They will be shown a few unit blocks, shown where they can be found in the classroom, and shown how to match them to their outline in order to clean up. 


Dramatic Play- Children are invited to explore the dramatic play area and use the props and clothing provided. Dramatic Play will be set up as a kitchen.  Teacher will introduce basic materials, how to use them, and how to put them away. 


Art- Children are invited to explore the art area. They will be shown a paint container, brush and paper. Teacher will model how to dip brush in paint and paint a few brushstrokes on paper. Students will be shown where materials can be found in the classroom and what they should do when they finish painting. 


Science- Children will be shown a few items from a collection of natural objects. Teacher will model how students can begin to explore some of the materials. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom and how to put them away when finished. 


Math- Children will be shown a couple of puzzles. Teacher will model how to take apart and how to put a few pieces together. Students will be shown where puzzles can be found and how to put them away. 


Library- Students are able to explore books from the classroom library.

  • In this book there are lots of animals. Which ones have you seen before? Where?
  • There are also lots of colors in this book. Let’s look and some of them together and see if we can find these colors in our classroom.
  • We saw lots of colors in this book. Do you have a favorite color? What is it? Why do you like that color?
