What are some ways we can move through the city?

Questions to ask your child in response to the read-aloud:
  1. There is a man riding a bike in this book. What other vehicles do you see in this book?
  2. The man went UP, around a town and then back DOWN. He went IN a tunnel and then _ (out) _. What else did he do?
  3. The man in this book rides his bike on a road. Do you ever travel on roads? Where do you go? What vehicle(s) do you use?

Suggested Text 
  1. What are some of the ways the girl and her grandma moved on their subway trip?
  2. Where do you think the girl and her grandma were going?
  3. Do you ever ride the subway? Where do you go? Who do you ride with?
Activity
Collect different recycle items, boxes, cardboard, toilet paper roll, and more.. invite your child to use his or her imagination to create a vehicle, a form or transportation that is used in the city. 

Suggested questions during activity
• What do you notice about ____? • Why do you think ________?
• How do you know? • What else does ________?
• Look at what happens when you __________.
• How can you ______?

TUESDAY: 

“The senses, being explorers of the world, open the way to knowledge.”

Sensory Play: Invite children to play, set up a bowl with rice, water or flour. If you use water you can add glitter, food coloring or even paint to make it more fun. Ask the children to just play and feel how soothing it is. Also, allow children to use toy tools or kitchen tools so that they can play using the sensory materials. During this activity children will explore the properties of the pourable materials on the table as well as the materials for scooping and pouring such as cups, scoops and shovels. You can use it that a calming exercises or a way to keep children entertained. 

Open ended questions:
• How does the _____ feel?
• How can you fill _____ with ______?
• Why do you think ________ happens when you pour sand/water/four in it?
• What would happen if ______?
